Ace Hotel London
When Ace Hotel opened its first overseas hotel it was an honor to curate artwork for the 240 guest rooms. We walked the neighborhood and saw the street artists of Shoreditch applying their pieces directly to buildings and with wheat paste. That became the technique we’d use for the rooms. And because Alex, the founder, was color blind we got excited about predominantly black and white art.
The collaboration included over 100 young UK and US artists. One was a street artist whose identity was hidden, one was living on a boat at the time in the river Thames. Others included Jonathan Barnbrook, Justine Ashbee, Struan Teague, Caroline Corbasson, and Rainer Judd.
